Introduction  (?)
The mass proliferation of almost every phyla in the animal kingdom. According to current research, this period of extreme diversification occured within a 5-10 million year span. This abrupt time of change asks many questions of biological evolution. Why did this sudden burst of diversity occur? What selection factors were at work? How did living things change that quickly? What was the beneficial mutation rate during this time? Can genomes withstand such pressures for longer periods? Could this occur again? Why are we currently in stasis compared with such a time as the Cambrian?

Definition  (?)

--- ! Begin definition instructions ! ---

  • This section could include information about:
    • types of activities that may be involved,
    • what kinds of resources to use for research,
    • structured research plans,
    • what lab tools will be valuable, or
    • identify and define research terms.
  • (700 characters or less)

Objectives  (?)

--- ! Begin objectives instructions ! ---

  • Identify clear research goals. These could include definite goals about data collection, observation, or desired outcomes of theoretical research. (700 characters or less)

--- ! End objectives instructions ! ---

Questions  (?)

--- ! Begin questions instructions ! ---

  • List 1-7 questions to be explored.
  • If a research application has more than 7 questions, it may be possible to split some of the questions into a new research article.

Keywords  (?)

--- ! Begin keywords instructions ! ---

  • Provide a simple list of words directly related to the research theme. (3-15 words)

--- ! End keywords instructions ! ---

Monographs  (?)

--- ! Begin monographs instructions ! ---

  • 1-10 of the most relevant published texts. This could be books, articles, or any hard copy resource. Cite in this format:
Title of Resource, Author Name, ISBN (number)
  • A title with a hyperlink (like above) to where the resource can be obtained is preferred.
  • Be sure to include the characters 'ISBN' before entering the actual number, that way we can compiled a site-wide bibliography by doing a search for 'ISBN'.
  • If Peer Reviewed writings, please designate type of peer review:
    • (p.r.) indicates that a work is peer reviewed by a mainstream journal
    • (p.r.I.D.) indicates that a work is peer reviewed by an ID journal

Criticism  (?)

--- ! Begin criticism instructions ! ---

  • The most useful critiques of this research application, included here as a simple title with a hyperlink or citation.
  • This section is not for the inclusion of a critical abstract, only links or citations.
  • (1-10 links or citations)

Status  (?)

--- ! Begin status instructions ! ---

  • Select one: 'Current' or 'Potential'
  • 'Current' means that there is a researcher/group that has published and/or are working on the research theme.
    • A researcher/group that is undertaking this study openly and explicitly as an ID application is preferred for this entry.
  • 'Potential' means that it is not known whether a researcher/group is working on this research application.

Extend  (?)

--- ! Begin extend instructions ! ---

  • Other questions that follow from this application that would be worthy of investigation.
  • Entries in the 'Extend' section could have high potential for becoming new research applications.
  • (700 characters or less)

Notes  (?)

--- ! Begin notes instructions ! ---

  • Use the citation and notation style of choice for the field, or the style that you would prefer use. Consistency within the article is the goal. If you want some ideas on style, check out Wikipedia's citation style examples.
  • How to use "wikified" citations.

In the text, type in:

 {{ref|descriptionname}}

In the "Notes" section, type in:

 # {{note|descriptionname}}
  • All of the notes under this section should be surrounded by these "div style" tags in order to make the text smaller:

<div style="font-size: 85%"> </div>

  • Be sure to remove the nowiki tags to allow the div tags to take effect.
