Intelligent design among atheists and agnostics
From ResearchID.org
Atheists and agnostics who have researched or defended intelligent design:
- Francis Crick (atheist) the co-discoverer of the structure of DNA, once espoused a view of evolution called directed panspermia, which proposes that life on earth was seeded by an extra-terrestrial intelligence. (more here)
- Sir Fred Hoyle (atheist) wrote on what he explicitly called “intelligent design” in books such as Evolution From Space and The Intelligent Universe.
- Antony Flew (former atheist) gave up atheism because of arguments put forward by intelligent design proponents.
- Michael Denton (agnostic)
- "Four centuries after the scientific revolution apparently destroyed irretrievably man's special place in the universe, banished Aristotle, and rendered teleological speculation obsolete, the relentless stream of discovery has turned dramatically in favor of teleology and design, and the doctrine of the microcosm is reborn." – Nature’s Destiny (1998) p.389 (more Denton quotes)
- Steve Fuller (agnostic) was an expert witness for the defense in the 2005 Kitzmiller v. Dover trial.
- David Berlinski (agnostic) is a fellow of the Discovery Institute.
- Raëlism, also known as the "Raelien Movement," promote what they call "Intelligent Design for Atheists." http://www.messagefromthedesigners.com.
